Toothache manifests itself violently for a variety of reasons, and the expertise of a dental surgeon is needed to suggest the right treatment. There are a number of possible causes of toothache, including :
- tooth decay;
- dental trauma;
- damage to the pulp as a result of major or faulty dental work;
- a wisdom tooth that tears the gum tissue;
- an accumulation of food debris between the teeth;
- gum infection;
- a dental abscess.
Poor dental hygiene, smoking and alcohol consumption, as well as irregular oral care, increase the risk of exposure to pulpitis.
Pulpitis is said to be reversible when the inflammation is treated definitively, and irreversible when the inflammation becomes chronic despite treatment.
