Dental Implants

The design and placement of dental implants are part of dental implantology. The aim of a dental implant is to restore as closely as possible the appearance of a tooth lost through edentulism. They help to restore good facial expression and comfortable chewing ability.
At Sana Oris, the expertise of our dental surgeons and the choice of high-quality materials ensure that patients enjoy optimum comfort after implant placement, with excellent aesthetic and functional results.

Dental implantology procedures

A dental implant aims to restore as closely as possible the appearance of a tooth lost through edentulism. Find out more about our dental implantology procedures.

What are dental implants ?

Dental implants are pure titanium screws that are placed in the jawbone to replace the roots of lost or missing teeth. This compatible bio-material will gradually become firmly attached to the bone tissue.

The implant then serves as the artificial root needed to support the future prosthesis. A denture is an artificial part that replaces a diseased or missing tooth. The dental prostheses designed in our Sana Oris laboratory are of excellent functionality and perfect aesthetic appearance, with a 2-year guarantee and Made in France.

When should dental implants be used ?

Dental implants are recommended when one or more teeth are missing or in very poor condition. This can happen as a result of impact, trauma or progressive periodontal disease (gum recession followed by loosening).
In addition to the aesthetic aspect, the aim is also to correct mechanical imbalances in the jaw that can make chewing difficult and ultimately affect the positioning of other teeth.

Dental implantology is now well known to the general public, and the surgical techniques used have resulted in very good satisfaction rates.

There are, however, a few rare contraindications, such as :

  • diseases that affect bone metabolism ;
  • specific infections;
  • malignant tumours affecting the bone;
  • radiotherapy.

Our different implant treatments

Cliniques Sana Oris has a team specialising in implantology and offers a wide range of implant treatments adapted to the individual needs of each patient, from the placement of simple implants to complete implant reconstructions for edentulous patients.

SIMPLE IMPLANTS

The placement of a simple implant, generally recommended in the event of the loss of one or more teeth, consists of considering the placement of an implant to replace the missing tooth or teeth. This procedure, which forms the basis of implantology, aims to restore both masticatory function and dental aesthetics. In the majority of cases, this procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, providing optimum comfort for the patient during the treatment.

The placement of a single implant offers a durable and aesthetic solution for replacing a missing tooth, while preserving the integrity of the adjacent teeth. It restores the patient’s chewing function and self-confidence, while preserving the health of the jawbone.

COMPLETE RECONSTRUCTIONS

Complete reconstructions are more complex treatments for people who are partially or totally edentulous, or whose oral health has deteriorated to the point where all the teeth in the arch (upper or lower) have to be extracted. In such advanced cases, our implantology experts recommend the dental restoration technique known as All-on-6.

This revolutionary implantology technique offers the possibility of rapidly obtaining a fixed and stable dentition. It involves the creation of a complete dental prosthesis fixed to the maxillary or mandibular bone, supported by six titanium implants distributed evenly along the jawbone.

The term “All-on” 6 implants indicates that this approach allows all the teeth in a dental arch to be replaced using a complete prosthetic device. The use of six dental implants ensures stability and a balanced distribution of chewing forces, which can improve oral functionality and aesthetics.

This technique is particularly suitable for restoring a complete dental arch when the patient has lost most or all of their teeth.

Our recommendations

Before any implant procedure, it is crucial to carry out a full periodontal assessment to prevent bone loss and avoid placing implants on infected gums, which would be counterproductive.

In the presence of periodontal disease, our clinic offers painless LASER treatments for complete healing. We have a specialised periodontics department to ensure optimal care.

Dental implants can only be placed on healthy bone and gums that are free of periodontal infection. This is essential to ensure the long-term success of implant treatment.

Careful assessment of bone quality is vital in determining the feasibility of implant placement. To do this, our clinic has state-of-the-art equipment such as high-definition digital radiography and cone-beam, and in some cases a CT scan of the jaw may be necessary.

In cases of advanced bone loss, a bone graft may be required before dental implants can be placed. Our dentists specialising in surgery are fully conversant with this technique and can offer you complete on-site care.

The advantages of dental implants

Dental implants offer a number of significant advantages, including

  • Natural appearance : dental implants are designed to resemble natural teeth. They also provide similar functionality to natural teeth.
  • Preservation of bone structure : implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing the bone loss that usually occurs after tooth loss. This helps maintain the integrity of the facial structure.
  • Durability : with proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. They are a long-term solution, unlike traditional dentures which may require periodic replacement.
  • Improved masticatory function : implants allow efficient mastication, similar to that with natural teeth. This is beneficial for digestion and the overall absorption of nutrients.
  • Protection of adjacent teeth : unlike dental bridges, implants do not require neighbouring teeth to be modified or ground down.
  • This preserves the integrity of adjacent healthy teeth.
  • Improved self-esteem : Implants help restore a full dental appearance, which can greatly improve self-confidence and psychological well-being.
  • Easy care: Implants can be cleaned just like natural teeth, without the need for extra care, making daily oral hygiene a breeze.

The implant procedure

Fitting a simple dental implant requires surgical expertise to ensure the success of the operation, which involves a number of steps:

  • Local anaesthetic and slight incision of the gum to gain access to the bone.
  • Placement of the titanium screw, encouraging its gradual integration into the bone.
  • Waiting several months before fixing the prosthesis to the solidly anchored implant.

The “All-on-6” method involves placing six dental implants to support a complete dental prosthesis. Each implant is inserted into the jaw in a similar way to a single dental implant, following the same surgical steps.

Specialised dental implantology tools are used to prepare the implant bed, which can be placed manually or guided by planning software. This procedure can be carried out from the end of growth and at any age.

A temporary resin prosthesis is usually worn for around two months to allow osseointegration. However, in some cases, our implants allow the final prosthesis to be fitted immediately.

The operation, which is often carried out as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic, is quick, sometimes taking just a few minutes. The total duration varies according to the complexity of the case, including the consultation, the surgery, the healing period and the fixing of the prosthesis.

As far as anaesthesia is concerned, local anaesthesia is common, but intravenous sedation may be offered for the patient’s comfort, particularly in cases of anxiety. We also offer other solutions such as psychological support
or even a general anaesthetic, depending on the patient’s needs and preferences.

Before and after results of dental implants

Dental implants can then be used to attach a temporary or permanent prosthesis, depending on the situation.
Well-placed implants of a size commensurate with the functional load they will have to support can last a lifetime.
The success of dental implantology depends as much on the expertise of the medical procedure and the quality of the implants as on the subsequent prevention of various periodontal pathologies.
Sana Oris therefore urges you to have an annual check-up to detect any new oral diseases at an early stage.

What anaesthetic is required for dental implants ?

The choice of anaesthetic depends on a number of factors, including the patient’s general health, anxiety level, the expected duration of the procedure and personal preferences. Local anaesthesia is the most commonly used form of anaesthesia for dental implant procedures. For anxious patients or for longer or more complex procedures, intravenous sedation can be combined with local anaesthesia. This involves the use of sedative drugs to help the patient relax. The patient remains awake but in a state of deep relaxation.

Is implant surgery painful ?

The placement of a dental implant, in itself, is generally painless thanks to the use of local anaesthetic or other forms of anaesthesia. During the procedure, the anaesthetic ensures that the patient feels no pain in the area where the implant is placed. After the operation, once the effect of the anaesthetic has worn off, it is common to feel some discomfort or slight pain in the treated area. This sensation is generally manageable with painkillers prescribed by your dental surgeon.

How long do I have to wait after an extraction before I can have a dental implant ?

Today, it is possible to perform an extraction and place the implant at the same time. However, this solution requires very precise techniques and applies to very specific situations at the discretion of the practitioner. It is preferable to space out the extraction and implant placement by a few months.

What guarantees do I have with a dental implant ?

Dental implants are guaranteed for 10 years. Please note that the guarantee only applies if you comply with the instructions given by your dental surgeon at the end of the session (general conditions and prophylaxis). In particular, you undertake to have your implant checked annually and to carefully maintain the work carried out in your mouth.
